WASHINGTON, D.C. – A batch of CBD oil has been voluntarily recalled by its manufacturer after testing positive for higher than acceptable levels of lead.

A 30ml bottle of KORE Organic CBD Oil, made by Summitt Labs, was flagged by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services after a random test found that the sample contained 4.7 ppm of lead.

Summitt Labs claims that they had a separate test conducted at an independent lab from the batch with results showing .5 ppm of lead, a level that is within the acceptable range set by Florida authorities. Despite the results of the second test, Summitt Labs has decided to pull any products from this batch off the market.

“Summitt Labs initiated, and will complete, a full recall of Batch #730 Lot #K018 in full cooperation with the [Food and Drug Administration] and Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services,” the company said through a summary posted on the FDA’s website.

According to the summary, so far, Summitt Labs has not received any confirmation that anyone has experienced adverse side effects from the use of its products. Lead poisoning can lead to a variety of serious ailments including pain, nausea, weight loss, and organ damage.

“Consumers should contact their physician or healthcare provider if they have experienced any problems that may be related to taking or using this drug product,” the summary states.

Summitt Labs is working to contact distributors in order to facilitate the return of all products from the potentially compromised batch.

“Summitt Labs is notifying its distributors and customers by email, phone, and personal visits to ensure the return of all recalled product,” the summary said. “Consumers, distributors, and retailers that have Kore Organic Watermelon CBD Oil Batch #730 Batch #K018, which is being recalled, should stop using the product.”

According to the product’s label, KORE Organic CBD Oil is designed to provide relief for stress and pain, to act as a mood enhancer, and to promote restful sleep. The FDA does not recognize CBD as a legal drug.

Consumers and distributors that have purchased the products in question may contact Summitt Labs by phone at 833-810-5673 Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST, or through the company’s website at www.KoreOrganic.com.
