Michael Parfet, 31, has been budtending at The Clinic for a year. Before that, he was a banker at a large corporate bank. Then he realized banking was not his calling and he needed to get back to his passion: cannabis. He found the right place to start. Launched in 2010, The Clinic is not only Colorado’s most awarded dispensary but also has deep roots in the community. The dispensary’s annual charity golf tournament has raised nearly $300,000 for National Multiple Sclerosis Society and has been involved in PrideFest events in Colorado for many years. “The Clinic is an ideal company for me to be working with based on the company’s excellent product, reputation, and growth opportunities,” noted Parfet.

I plan on being better than I was yesterday but not as good as Ill be tomorrow. Life is a journey, not a destination. Cliché, I know, but its true for me.” —Michael Parfet

Why budtending

I became a budtender because I saw how many people were reaping the benefits of cannabis in its many different forms. Each person has different physiology, and some things work better than others. I love to share my knowledge and experience with our customers and patients.

Careers or passion

Both! I feel lucky to work in my passion.

Hobbies

My wife and I just celebrated a year of marriage and love exploring hobbies together. We are both native Coloradans and avid snowboarders and hikers. Recently, we’ve gotten into Pokemon Go.

Advice

My advice is to learn as much as you can. The key is knowledge about the products you’re selling. Learn the facts, ask questions of the vendors, read books, and share your knowledge with co-workers, patients, and customers. Many times customers don’t know what they’re looking for, and they’re relying on you for your help. Cannabis is a “high-touch” sale. Most importantly, be professional at all times—and have fun.

Testing products

I carry a medical card and use cannabis. I also serve on The Clinic’s edibles review team, where we personally sample and test any third-party product we carry in our stores.

Asking for a raise

The best way to ask for a raise is by showing you earned it. Work hard every day, show up on time, and communicate.

Future

I plan on being better than I was yesterday but not as good as I’’ll be tomorrow. Life is a journey, not a destination. Cliché, I know, but it’s true for me.
