Jerusalem – A medical cannabis course will open at Jerusalem-based Hadassah Academic College this December. 80 students are already enrolled in the course, which will focus on entrepreneurship and growth opportunity of the product, indicative of the increasing prominence of medical cannabis in Israeli academia.
“In Israel, we teach all aspects of medical cannabis—from infrastructure, to agriculture, to how to grow it, as well as medical treatment, legal issues, and business entrepreneurship,” says Dr. Michael Dor, Director of the “Medical Cannabis Entrepreneurship” at Hadassah Academic College.
According to Dr. Dor, there is tremendous potential of cannabis in medicines and export products. More than 700 entrepreneurs have applied for a license to grow cannabis in Israel, with significant potential for growth, treatment, and study.
The cannabis course at HAC will focus on the pharmacological effects of the various strains of medical cannabis; legal implications of cannabis sale and manufacture worldwide; recent developments in medical treatments involving cannabis; cannabis and its effects on cancer; cannabis and its effects on autism, specifically in children; extracting the optimal medical benefits from the cannabis plant; genetics of the cannabis plant; andcannabis as a pain reliever.
“This really is a cutting edge field to be a part of at this moment,” adds Professor Bertold Fridlender, President of Hadassah Academic College. “We want to offer our students an opportunity to learn and to explore the multitude of opportunities it presents.”
