UPDATE: Political blog POLITICO today revealed accusations of alleged domestic abuse against “cannabis” candidate Benjamin Thomas Wolf. After garnering media scrutiny with interviews on major media outlets with provocative campaign ads, the Progressive candidate for Congress in Illinois was accused of physical abuse and online trolling by former girlfriend Katarina Coates.

“Katarina Coates, a former girlfriend who interned for his campaign, told POLITICO that Wolf was frequently physically and emotionally abusive, and ‘doxxed’ her by revealing her name and home address on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook,” the POLITICO post said.

Mgretailer.com covered publicity received by Wolf, in regards to his campaign activities. He was contacted for an interview but unavailable for comment at the time of the previous post. See below.

Progressive candidate for Congress in Illinois’ 5th District, Benjamin Thomas Wolf is a former FBI agent and diplomat that served in Iraq. So, when his campaign recently issued an image of Wolf, seated in front of an abstract painting of the American flag, face to the camera with legs casually crossed, smoking a joint, Wolf received much media attention.

Yesterday, he tweeted the image and said, simply, “Legalize cannabis. Vote March 20th.”

The day before, Wolf told the Chicago Sun Times, “As a cannabis user, I think it’s important we get out front and talk about it. We realize that cannabis can bring billions of dollars to the state, it’s medicine for millions of people around the country, it changes criminal justice reform and personally I think it’s a wonderful recreational substance as well.”

Wolf and two other challengers are running against incumbent U.S. Congressman Mike Quigley (D-Ill.) for the 5th District, which includes the northern parts of Chicago, suburban Oakbrook, and Chicago’s O’Hare Airport. Voters in the district average 33-years old and Wolf’s progressive campaign stance may be especially appealing to that younger demographic. On March 20, voters will go to the polls in the primary.

Not one to shy away from the gun reform debate, Wolf also strongly favors outlawing assault rifles, which may strike a chord in Chicago, which has famously been plagued by gun violence in the last several years.

Wolf posted a video on his YouTube channel, explaining his stance on gun reform, and demonstrating his point with an AR-15 –the same gun Wolf used in Iraq, and was used more recently by Nikolas Cruz, the accused shooter in the Parkland school shooting.
