Since Nevada residents voted to legalize recreational marijuana use in November, there has been conflicting info from authorities as to just exactly when sales will start.

Last week, a judge’s ruling seemed to signal that recreational marijuana sales would not begin on July 1, as previously thought.

The Nevada Department of Taxation may be ready to move forward anyway. Department spokesperson Stephanie Klapstein has indicated that shops will start receiving their recreational sales licenses this week.

Since the first round of licenses will go to already up and running medical marijuana dispensaries, some of the shops are adding to their inventory in anticipation of increased demand when legal recreational sales start.

“We’re coming up with a plan to make sure that those patients are taken care of whether they come in faster, or they know what they want, they can come in and get it, but we want to make sure the patients aren’t forgotten in this whole process,” Brenda Gansallus of Sahara Wellness said according to KTNV.

Up to 25 dispensaries in Las Vegas and Reno are expected to start recreational sales this Saturday, barring no further legal developments.

Nevada lawmakers have already figured additional tax revenues collected from legal sales into the budget.
